ABOUT US

ADDRESS

PHILOSOPHY

Coming from a systems theory background, I specialize in systemic trauma, from identity or relational trauma to religious and sexual trauma. In sessions, we explore how identity, symptoms, and coping create complex interactions. Utilizing modalities that range from Internal Family Systems to Polyvagal, leads to a collaborative counseling experience.

MODALITIES

Systems Theory

According to systems theory, the world is vast, with many complex systems, all of which affect how we function and cope. It conceptualizes therapy as a political practice and engages marginalization and biases, both other’s and our own.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

DBT is the concept that two things can be true at the same time. DBT works through acceptance of our intense emotions and change of the actions that are harming us or others.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

IFS is the idea that we all have internal “parts”. For example, when we are approaching a big decision and notice how our heart says one thing, but our head says another. IFS looks at the reason different ‘parts’ have specific roles, and what changes can be made to reduce the rigidity of those roles and the level of emotional response.

Polyvagal Theory

Poly means many, and vagal refers to the Vagus Nerve System. This theory tackles the relationship our body’s signaling of a threat and ‘fight, flight, freeze, and fawn’ responses. It focuses on trauma work and how we can learn to cope with our responses using the body (somatic work).

Narrative Therapy

This approach asks what stories we tell about ourselves and others. It explores how shifting the narrative can shift how we feel and even respond to stress or symptoms by shifting the stories we carry with us.
